THE IDEA:
The Nigeria Technology Promotion Exhibition (NITPEX) is a unique exhibition designed to promote and foster creativity and innovation in the area of indigenous technology which is continually being neglected and eroded by the over-rated emphasis on music and the performing arts.
The exalted stages in our nation has continued to be the performing arts (Sports, Music & Drama) and entertainment generally so much so that now, the career aspirations of most members of the next generation lies in the sports and performing arts sectors. Afterall, most of their role models are people who are successful, especially monetarily, in those areas.
But then, no nation develops only by emphasis on the performing arts. Every prosperous society must be able to boast of a thriving science and technology base, and the drivers of development generally, are usually Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) which are invariably the largest employers of labour.
This is by no means meant to disparage or underrate the importance, or contributions of the performing arts, or their practitioners, to wealth creation and national development. Rather, it is a clarion call to all stakeholders not to lose sight of the centrality of a healthy investment in the development of Science & Technology, to the sustainable growth, prosperity and improved quality of life, of any modern society.
